Caravelle Hotel & Casino In Cooperation With Government of the Virgin Islands Restores Boardwalk Lights
Local Businesses Benefit From Caravelle’s Commitment To Fund Ongoing Boardwalk Lighting Electrical Costs
Caravelle Hotel & Casino, the boutique waterfront hotel in the historic town of Christiansted, St. Croix, has completed and funded repairs to the boardwalk lights that were damaged during the storms of 2017. The $130,000 boardwalk light restoration project began May 20, 2019 and has been completed. As a sign of good faith and commitment to revitalizing Christiansted, Caravelle will also be donating payment for future electrical costs associated with the boardwalk lights.
“In 2017 two storms, Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria, blew through the US Virgin Islands causing significant damage,” stated Andrew Dubuque, Principal and CFO of Caravelle Hotel & Casino. “Replacing the boardwalk lights is just another way we are helping with the improvements and revitalization of the downtown Christiansted area.”
The restoration will be managed by Genesis Electrical, a Virgin Islands business, and will include repairing and replacing 50 damaged lights with high-speed LED hardwired light fixtures. The new light fixtures are environmentally friendly, storm resistant, and they meet DPNR standards. The new LED lights will be powered through the hotel and they will also be connected to the hotel’s emergency backup generator.
Caravelle Hotel & Casino recognizes the issues surrounding electricity as a hindrance for growth and prosperity to the historic downtown Christiansted area and remain dedicated to making a positive impact on improving the vitality, development, and preservation of the historic harbor town. As a solution, they will be funding restoration for the damaged boardwalk lights, connecting the main power supply to their emergency power source, and will be paying for the future costs to power the lights.
Local businesses stand to benefit greatly from the hotel’s restoration project and ongoing commitments. Most of the boardwalk’s lights were non-functional and the project brings lighting to the area that everyone can enjoy. Businesses can now depend on more consistent lighting, especially during power outages, because the lights are being powered through Caravelle Hotel & Casino and their emergency power source. Most importantly, local businesses will reap the substantial benefit from Caravelle picking up the monthly bills for future electrical costs.
Progress of the boardwalk light repairs and restorations were featured on the social media channels of the hotel. To view the progress, follow the hotel’s social Facebook and Instagram and Twitter pages.
